Lupinus sp (lupine) collection

The Seed Germplasm Bank at CICYTEX contains the national active collection of Lupinus sp (lupine), of which the duplicate base collection is kept in the Plant Genetic Resources of Alcalá de Henares. This collection currently has 2,074 entries for 11 different species. As this is an active collection, a sufficient number of seeds of each of the entries must be kept in order to provide the necessary material to improvers and scientists requesting it. The seeds are kept at under 3% humidity and a 0 to 10 0C temperature. As well as preserving plant material that would otherwise disappear completely should these collections not exist, the entries stored are the raw material necessary to obtain new varieties that can be adapted to changing agricultural and environmental conditions.

On the other hand, there are grain legume varieties which are not used at present.
