At CICYTEX’s Finca Valdesequera we have been working on the improvement of the genetic line of the “Valdesequera” Iberian pig, which takes its name from the experimental dehesa where it is reared, over 40 years. Currently, it also has animals of the Lampiño and Torbiscal breeds (breeds of Iberian pig) donated by Finca del Dehesón del Encinar. There are also Duroc animals, which are red skin and black hoof animals that considerably improve the Iberian pig production and this is nearly the only breed that is used in industrial breed crossing. This is why we also study Duroc x Iberian cross animals.

The census of registered pigs in Finca Valdesequera in 2021 was as follows:

Seventy sows and 15 boars of the Retinta breed, Valdesequera line, which was selected for its breeding properties with good results.

Twenty sows and 5 boars of the Lampiña breed.

Twenty sows and 5 boars of the Torbiscal breed.

Three boars of the Duroc breed.
